WELCOME TO 2021! Out with the old, and in with the new...
We kept ourselves very busy around the house in 2020 and 2021 started no differently. We began a chicken coop expansion, purchased additional Turkish rugs, bought a player piano, and more!
We said goodbye to our hen turned rooster at the beginning of the year. He became too aggressive.
Sweet Tule has become very friendly and is Catherine's constant companion.
Here is Maddie and little Happy. Maddie is growing so fast!! She will be 8 in May 2021.
Catherine caught her foot on a cell phone cord and fell. Concrete floors are the least forgiving!
Catherine spent a few weeks in a cast and in terrible pain!
Catherine and daughter Jess took a cooking class at Sur La Table. It was a fun bonding experience with delicious results.
The girls learned to make a fabulous lasagna.
Catherine also enjoys cooking at home with granddaughter, Maddie.
Maddie thinks cooking is lots of fun.
In February, we decided to add new trees and rocks near the pool and petanque court.
We replaced our vintage piano with this fabulous player piano. It can be played manually, but it is also hooked up to the internet and can play an endless number of songs.
The piano looks beautiful and is a lot of fun.
Here are our beautiful Matilija Poppies, aka the "Queen of California" flowers.
In February 2021 we built this Annex onto the Chicken Coop and call it our Aviary. It gives the girls more room to play during the day unsupervised. Chickens love to play in, dig in, and even eat the dirt so this extra space gives them more room to be chickens.
Our builder Tom Holland and his assistant John Mayton did the project for us.
They say the best eggs come from Free Range Chickens. We tried that, and a hawk swooped down and took one of our chickens. This aviary is 12" x 25" and is predator-proof.
Mille is checking out the new aviary. She is the smallest chicken of the flock.
The girls were thrilled digging in the fresh dirt.
Granddaughter Maddie loves playing with the chickens as there is a lot of new room. She fed them apples this day, which they LOVED! She appears to be teaching Bessie to fly here...
The Easter Egger lays the olive green eggs. In order to get an Easter Egger, you breed a male or female chicken that lays dark chocolate colored brown eggs to one of the many breeds of the other sex chicken that lays blue eggs. The Ameraucanas lay the blue eggs. We have some pinks and browns... everything but white.
Dave and Catherine took several local camping trips in the RV. Here is Dave at Doran Beach.
Casey and Sandy camping with us.
Great Easter Camping Trip
We are getting a puppy! This is little Cedar Berry, an Australian Shepard. Catherine is flying to Colorado May to pick him up from the breeder. This is sneak peak of his baby picture.
Cedar has joined the family and loves his new home.
Cedar discovers the creek!
